Who will replace Alex Ferguson?

May 8, 2013

26 years at helm of Manchester United, 13 top flight league crown, 2 Champions League titles, numerous FA and League cup titles are achievements, which only a manager would dream about. Sir Alex Ferguson might not have even thought of achieving such heights, but moderate success could have pleased him, when he first took in charge of Manchester United. But, he has eclipsed his dream and made himself as one of the most respected managers of English club, not only Manchester United. But, what looms large is the million dollar question of who will replace Alex Ferguson after his decision steps down at the end of the season? There are a number of contenders for Manchester United’s hot seat. Some names, which immediately crop up are Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp, David Moyes, Laurent Blanc. It would not be surprising, if there are some outside candidates such as Ryan Giggs and Harry Redknapp.

Of all these names, David Moyes is the best contender for the managerial job at Manchester United. With the Everton man ending his contract at the end of the season, Moyes taking over the job from Ferguson looks a decent possibility. Moyes with his experience of managing a team like Everton in the EPL should be a good choice. Fans can expect Moyes to bring the best out of the players as he has done with Everton players in the past. It was Moyes’ name that used to crop of before as well, when talks about Ferguson’s successor came to the surface amongst football pundits.

Jose Mourinho could be what the Manchester United fans would love to see at Old Trafford. The player has all the attributes to manage a side like Manchester United. He has the flair and passion for the game similar to Alex Ferguson and add to that resume his cool and witty attitude, which could be well taken by Manchester United fans. But, what goes against the idea of Jose joining Manchester is his utter love for Chelsea, his former club, which he is expected to join next season. but, Mourinho is someone who loves challenges and he might jump the Chelsea gun to manage United.

Jurgen Klopp is another contender, who could well silently grab the seat vacated by Alex Ferguson. The way he has driven his team, Borussia Dortmund to the finals of the Champions League with not many quality players compared to other big teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich speaks volumes about the manager. Klopp may well be interested to take his managerial skills to Old Trafford and show where he belongs , to the best of the best clubs in the world.

But there are other contenders who could well spring in a surprise, such as Harry Redknapp, the QPR manager presently and a former Tottenham Hotspur manager as well, who had brought laurels to Tottenham in the past. Even Ryan Giggs could make it for he knows all the players personally and could be a good hit amongst the players and fans as well.

Irrespective of whoever may succeed him at the helm of Manchester United, a monumental task lies ahead. Fans have been habituated with the glory that Alex Ferguson brought to the club, which might be the most difficult of all the task that the new manager faces at hand, when he joins the most successful club of all time, Manchester United.
