Chris Gayle – main player for RCB to win IPL 2013

April 5, 2013

Chris Gayle RCB main player

Chris Gayle, one of the best IPL players along with being one of the best six hitters will play a crucial role if the Bangalore Challengers are to win IPL 2013. The West Indian batsmen did it last year as well, where he was the highest run scorer in the IPL with 733 runs, but still it was not enough to help them win the title. They were knocked out from the group stages itself. Their best performance in the IPL has been their runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2011. But, things might change this time if Chris Gayle fires and other players also chip in. He has started IPL 2013 in a nice note with a 58 balls 92, which includes five towering sixes.

Being an opener for the RCB, he has taken so much of the pressure from other players. In an age, where basically one witnesses openers going hammer and tongs after the bowlers from the start, but Gayle’s approach is different from the rest, as he has been seen playing his eye in for the first six overs or more and then later exploding, which has helped both the player as well as the team. The way he handles both the spinners as well as the fast bowlers with equal disdain stands out in his batting display.

He is someone who can also change his game according to the situation. He can straightaway play his shots, if the need arises. If and when RCB are chasing a score of around 200 plus, then Gayle would make use of the field restrictions with his attacking display and also reduce the pressure on the RCB batting line up. When he goes hammer and tongs, there is no bowler in world cricket or stadium that would be able to contain the batsmen. He clears the ground with utmost ease. Hitting sixes has become a habit for the big left hander. He is one of the most feared batsmen in world cricket and especially, when it comes to T20 cricket, he is indeed the best.

Apart from being a dangerous batsmen in the shortest format of the game, he is also someone who can roll his arm over and take important wickets. He is an off spinner who lets the ball rip the surface and normally the batsmen are caught unaware. Even when he does not take wickets, he plays an important role in containing the run flow, which is important in T20 cricket.

RCB is highly dependent on Chris Gayle to deliver, but there are going to be instances when he would fail. So, it becomes imperative for other players also to chip in and make good contributions to the team’s total. Players such as Virat Kohli, Dilshan etc needs to deliver, else, irrespective of the prolific display by the West Indian for RCB, it still might not be enough.
