Valdes four match ban

Victor Valdes, Barcelona’s goalkeeper has been suspended for four games after his outburst against the referee, Miguel Perez Lasa in their last El Classico, where Madrid turned out triumphant 2-1. The incident had taken place after the final whistle blew, where Valdes run up to the referee as the goalie felt they were let down by the referee, who should have given a penalty during the stoppage time, when Sergio Ramos was tripped in the penalty box.

The referee initially did not show him a straight red, but was only shown yellow, but still the player did not backtrack and was seen agitated and did not stop abusing the referee. Even his team mates failed to pull the player back initially. The referee could not take it anymore and showed him the dreaded red card. Victor Valdes was the only one who crossed the line of protest, whereas other Barcelona players did not. Even after the red card the player was in no mood to cool himself down. It was only with the help of the club’s staff that the player could be taken to the dressing room.

In the post match report, it was stated by the referee that Valdes said ‘”You s**t yourselves , you have no shame.”‘ a number of times. Even in the tunnel the player was not quiet and had a go at the referee there as well. The player will miss four of his matches against Deportivo La Coruna, Rayo Vallecano, Real Mallorca and Celta Vigo, but the club will appeal this four match ban.

But, in spite of the ban, Barca’s number 1 would be playing the all important game against AC Milan in the Champions League round of 16. Barcelona is trailing 2-0 with the second leg set to be played at Nou Camp, next Tuesday.
