Manchester United opens a 15 point lead, no way back for Manchester City

Manchester United after winning their match against Queens Park Rangers, 2-0 yesterday has widened the gap in top of the table to 15 points. With City playing their league game today against Chelsea, even a win would still take the defending champions 12 points adrift of the current league leaders, Manchester United. One can assume that United has won the title even with 11 more games to play.

It is not guaranteed that City is going to win their match against Chelsea, who also has a certain ambition in their mind – to play champions league football next season. Chelsea winning the game would only instill fear of a downward slide in the minds of the Manchester City fans.

For those Manchester City hopefuls as well, they are aware of the reality – missing out in the EPL title this season. They have some important games coming up in the next 3-4 months, where they would be playing some crunch matches starting today against Chelsea. Some of their important remaining fixtures for the season are against Everton, Manchester United, West Brom and Tottenham. If they do not perform up to the mark in these matches, they might be fighting for a Champions League spot, for which the competition is just getting hotter with teams such as Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton all eyeing for the elusive Champions League spot.

The difference between the second spot and the fifth spot is just six points and if Chelsea wins the game today, the blues are going to come a point closer to Manchester City, which would only make life difficult for the defending champions. They would put pressure on themselves, so today’s match is going to be an important one for them. But, Mancini’s side do not deserve to be out of the champions league spot, as they have been the best teams of the season, if we leave Manchester United apart.
