Cristiano Ronaldo – the X factor in Manchester United Vs Real Madrid Champions League fixture

February 11, 2013

Cristiano Ronaldo could be the main difference when Manchester United meets Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at Old Trafford on 13 February. Ronaldo had been one of the favorite son for Manchester United when he played for the red devils in the English Premier League before he was taken by Real Madrid for a record transfer. So, he primarily knows many players of Manchester United and most importantly their manager, Alex Ferguson, who chalks out most of the plans.

Both teams would be playing to win, so Ronaldo would be imparting some knowledge, if not all to his Real Madrid team mates how to play against these Manchester United players. He knows about the weakness and strength of many a players and he would make sure that Real Madrid do not play to their strengths. Ronaldo personally knows how one of their influential players, Wayne Rooney play –  in and out. But since his departure, Rooney’s role within the team has changed. Still, if Real Madrid keeps Rooney quiet, then it is going to be a tough night for Manchester to break through. But, one player that has been doing most of the scoring for Manchester has been Van Persie, who was not there when Ronaldo was wearing the red devils jersey. Mourinho must have done their homework to keep him silent. He would be the main person for Manchester United.

One can say that Real Madrid has witnessed the best of Cristiano Ronaldo as he has scored at a tremendous rate- 182 goals in 179 matches. Very few players would be able to come up with such a tremendous record. But, there are other players in their squad as well such as Alonso, Ozil just to name a few who makes his game easy by providing him good goal scoring opportunities. Real Madrid of late has been heavily dependent on Ronaldo as well to score goals and help them win their first leg comfortably. But, Alex Ferguson, on the other hand also knows about the strength and weaknesses of the player, where he would like to exploit his weakness, if any left. He has a habit of scoring crucial goals in important fixtures and this could well be a perfect night for Ronaldo.

To a large extent, the success of the match for Real Madrid would largely depend on how good a performance can Ronaldo come up with at Old Trafford, which once used to be his favourite hunting ground. The best thing for Ronaldo is that he knows the length and the breadth of the field, so it would not be an alien ground for him. It was at this venue, where he displayed his skills for United and thus became a world class player. It could in fact be homecoming for the Portuguese star, though he might not be supported this time around as he used to be during his Manchester United days. One of the best players of the world, Cristiano Ronaldo undoubtedly would be the centre of focus when these two teams meet for their Champions League clash.
