Gerrard and Sturridge scored two of the best goals of the season for Liverpool, but still they could not defeat Manchester City where the game finished- 2-2. Liverpool were well on course for a win, had Liverpool goalie, Pepe Reina not come out of his line and given that slim chance to Aguero, City’s striker  to score a goal, which he obliged beautifully. Not many would have found the back of the net.

It was game where Liverpool looked better out of the two and deserved to win the tie at the Eithad Stadium. Both teams had to win the match, as City are chasing for the title, while Liverpool are looking for a fourth spot finish in the English Premier League to grant them a champions league spot. But this draw helped neither.

For Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge was the hero of the day with not only his emphatic strike, but also his game, which proved that he belonged to the big stage of the English Premier League. He linked very well with Luis Suarez and it augers well for the future of Liverpool Football Club. This partnership between Suarez and Sturridge could be one of the most lethal in the League with their chemistry and short passes making it a nightmare for defenders.

Apart from Sturridge, it was Liverpool’s living legend, Gerrard who came up with a superb game controlling the game beautifully both on the offensive as well as the defensive side when the need arose. His characteristic goal reminded many critics who at the start of the season said that Gerrard is past his prime. But this season, he has been one of the best players for Liverpool. He has not missed a single minute of the EPL this season. This fact should explain it all.

Manchester City was overplayed by Liverpool in all departments of the game. Though, the game changed a bit and Manchester City came back when Milner became effective in the wings and Aguero started to trouble the Liverpool defenders in the final stages of the game. But, it was not enough for them to come up with a winner. They must consider themselves lucky to secure a point from the game.

With this one has to take into consideration that this Liverpool team has looked a great side in the last two to three weeks. In the previous game against Arsenal as well at the Emirates, they drew their match. Looks like, Liverpool are slowly coming into their own under Brendan Rodgers.

  1. Sturridge was too good today man… with all the media attention that he has been getting recently, this was sure to come. I had hopes that liverpool will take home all 3 points tonight. But a draw at this stage is also too cool!
*That rare moment when a United fan cheers for Liverpool*

    • He was exceptional. Had it not been for Pepe’s blunder, Liverpool would have taken three points from the tie.
