January Transfer window: Villa tracked by Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal

January 2, 2013

David Villa to join Manchester City

David Villa, once one of the most feared strikers of world football is not getting enough playing time for Barcelona under their new manager, Tito Vilanova. Villa has only made 17 appearances for the club scoring 5 goals. So, it is obvious as David Villa wants to go to a club, which will offer him more playing time on the football pitch. Teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have been alerted over the players availability.

Liverpool were the first team to jump upon this opportunity, as they had offered the club a loan deal, which Barcelona were not keen on. Barcelona wants a deal worth GBP 16 million. Liverpool may well have almost secured the Sturridge deal, but Villa’s inclusion is only going to strengthen the squad. His wealth of experience in the La Liga will help Liverpool in front of goal, which has been a huge problem. Luis Suarez has been carrying the burden of Liverpool’s strike force single-handedly.

David Villa may not fit into Liverpool’s scheme of signing players as the player is past 30 years and the Fenway group are very skeptical about signing such players. They have more than once stated their desire to get in young players. But, Liverpool may well have to make Villa an exception to this policy, as Villa is still not past his prime and can play an important role in Liverpool colours supporting Luis Suarez. Player of his quality should walk into any team.

It is not only Liverpool who have eyed David Villa as their striker, but Chelsea and Arsenal are said to be serious contenders as well. Chelsea is close to signing Demba Ba from Newcastle United, so the club might not be interested like clubs such as Liverpool or Arsenal. Arsenal is also said to have kept David Villa as their top priority during the January Transfer window.Arsenal brought in two quality strikers, Podolski and Giroud, but still, they are in need of such striker, who could help them dream of the EPL title.

It would not be surprising, if some other teams hijacks the deal, for the player is one, who has one of the best proven record at both the club as well as the country level.
