Will Chelsea be too hot for Tottenham Hotspur?

October 11, 2012

Gareth Bale, Tottenham HotspurChelsea has had a great start to the EPL season this time around with 19 points from seven matches. The best record in the League so far. Their true test would lie against another top team, Tottenham Hotspur, who has equally looked impressive with 14 points. But, it is the Chelsea team that has looked stronger than ever before. Hence, no team in the EPL has managed to win against the blues. Tottenham would like to change that record straightaway, when both these teams meet this Saturday at White Hart Lane. Tottenham, on their home ground are a tough nut to crack.

Chelsea has scored 15 goals in the competition, which is one of the best in the competition and conceded four, one of the least in the competition. This just establishes that Chelsea has looked good both in offense as well as defense. But, still, there are some loopholes, which needs to be exposed by Tottenham and they have the ammunitions to do so.

Players such as Gareth Bale, Lennon, Dempsey, are good enough offensive players who can make many team in the EPL sweat. Though, very few teams have been able to break Chelsea’s back, but these Tottenham players have width to their forte and also have players who can run at defenders. Bale and Lennon need to provide more pace in order to rattle Terry and Luiz. Both of them are world class defenders, but they look circumspect when they come up against speedy players. We can expect Bale to be on fire, as he takes his game a notch higher when he is put up against stronger teams, more often or not.

It is the Chelsea midfielders who have been primarily running the Chelsea show from the centre of the park. They have the best midfielders in the EPL namely Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Lampard, Ramires. All these players are not only capable of providing chances for Fernando Torres to score but also scoring on their own, which takes the pressure away from  the Chelsea strikers.

The game is considered to be very important in the context of the EPL standings, as a victory here for Tottenham would mean that the club will just be two points away from Chelsea. A victory for Chelsea would mean another week on the top of the table.
