Liverpool has much more to play than what meets the eye against Manchester City

August 25, 2012

Manchester City

The EPL 2012/2013 season has just started and the first big game of the season is just a day away with the champions, Manchester City travelling to Anfield. Liverpool has had their worst start of the season with their loss to WBA. Manchester City almost had a similar fate, but they somehow manage to turn out triumphant against Southampton.

Liverpool under their new manager, Brendan Rodgers, in spite of their defeat looks a confident side. But, they are aware of the daunting task at hand. Liverpool has always been a strong team at home, which would create some fear in the minds of the City players, who knows what it is to play at Anfield. The relentless support of their fans has made this place a stadium a great stage to host a football match.

Liverpool handed over some rest to their key players such as Suarez, Gerrard, Skrtel when they played their Europa League match against hearts. But, it is Suarez and Gerrard, whom the Liverpool think tank would be counting to lead the team from the front. Especially Suarez needs to find the back of the net, which has been a major problem for Liverpool. Their new signings, Allen and Borini needs to settle quickly into the Liverpool side, as Brendan Rodgers expects them to perform for the reds with flying colours.

Manchester City, on the other hand has great players in their lineup, which not only provides a big threat in the team sheet but also on the field. They have one of the best squads in the league. With Aguero set to miss the match at Anfield, Tevez and Balotelli should lead the lineup. Of late, we have seen Tevez getting back to form, which is a dangerous sign for any opposition. With Daniel Agger’s absence in the back for his red card in the first game of the league, the striking duo can create havoc, so Skrtel will have his job cut out against these star players, not to forget the silky talent of Silva who would be assisting both these players.

Liverpool is aware of the importance of the game, as they have two major teams to play in the coming weeks, Arsenal and Manchester United. A victory against City could give the much needed confidence when they play such quality teams. A loss here would straight away mean that they would belong to the bottom half of the table with 0 points and 6 points away from the champions. So, there is much more to play at Anfield for Liverpool, than what meets the eye.
