Why Fernando Torres holds the key for Chelsea?

August 20, 2012

Fernando Torres 2012/2013 EPL Chelsea

Form is temporary and Class is permanent, is what Chelsea fans must have been thinking about Fernando Torres. Chelsea fans have always backed the player, irrespective of his poor outing ever since he joined Chelsea from Liverpool, with a GBP 50 million price tag. But, it is time for the player to deliver in the 2012/2013 EPL season, which has just started. No doubt about the quality and the class of the player, so it might be his last chance to prove himself in Chelsea colours, else Stamford Bridge may no longer be his home ground. He knows it, hence we might get to see the best of Fernando Torres during the 2012/2013 EPL season. Roman Abramovich has shown faith in the player, else he is a businessman who wants instant success, as witnessed in the past.

Fernando Torres is under pressure right from the beginning of the season, not only owing to his poor form last season, but also the mantle that he is carrying on his shoulders to score goals for Chelsea. They no longer have the services of D. Drogba, Kalou, Lukaku etc. But the former Liverpool striker could shine in such circumstances, when the club is dependent on him to score goals. It was the same case at Liverpool and how well did he deliver the goods.

Last season, he had to warm the bench a number of times, but it is not going to be the same this season. He would more often or not lead the line of attack as a lone striker with some new faces, such as Oscar, Hazard playing behind him . They also have the services of Daniel Sturridge, who has had an impressive last season, which would keep Fernando Torres close on his heels.

During the end of the last season, there were some encouraging signs for Chelsea and Torres who played impressive football in the Champions League and EPL under the guidance of Di Matteo. The new care taker manager had instilled a sense of confidence in the player, which was reflected during his game, but no where to his best, which has been seen only in Liverpool colours in the EPl at least. In spite of less game time for Spain in the Euro 2012, the Spanish striker  was awarded the golden boot for scoring four goals, which would only encourage the player during the season.

For a player like Fernando Torres, one just needs some goals to roar back to form and get the momentum, but he has not been able to find the back of the net. With some great youngsters in the Chelsea line up, such as Oscar, Hazard, Marin and with experienced Lampard, he can expect great assists from these players to help him score goals. Once he comes back to form, defenders would start to fear Chelsea more than ever, as he has the pace and the hunger for goals to rattle defenders. The number of goals that Fernando Torres scores for Chelsea during the 2012/2013 season would be directly proportionate to Chelsea’s success.

From → Football

  1. World class striker, just needs to find any kind of consistency and hell be away again. Had a great European championships without having really to try hard.

    • Yes, Chelsea fans would be eager to see the best of him. Torres in full flow is an amazing sight for any football fan, irrespective of the club, he/she supports.
