Edinson Cavani, likely to sign for Chelsea

July 17, 2012

Edinson cavani, Chelsea, Napoli

Edinson Cavani had been linked away from Napoli since last season. There were a host number of clubs that were interested in his signature for his prolific goal scoring record. The scenario has not changed much. This time around Chelsea seem to be the favourite to land the Napoli striker, who has had a tremendous career in the Serie A with more than 60 goals (for Napoli) to his name in a span of around 2 seasons only.

Chelsea might have to pay around GBP 35 million to acquire the services of the talented striker. Chelsea do not have any dearth of money as they showed it during the 2011 January transfer window, when they purchased Fernando Torres from Liverpool for around 50 million . It is just a matter of Roman Abramovich’s choice. If he feels that the player can strengthen their squad, he does not mind splurging money in the inflated market.

The blues are seriously looking for a great player upfront after Didier Drogba decided to join a Chinese club. Apart from the player, Kalou has also left the club. Initially they were looking for Hulk as Drogba’s replacement , but the club had to look elsewhere after Porto put a huge price tag on their favourite player, Hulk. Hence, they had to again turn their attention to Cavani. But this time the deal looks serious than ever. Cavani on all probability will be playing under Chelsea colours in the upcoming season.

If Chelsea manages to sign the player, it could be a great deal for the blues, as they would have lethal strikers in their squad. Fernando Torres and Cavani could be the best strike force in the EPL. Both Torres and Cavani need to pay their price tag through goals, which would make everyone associated with the club happy. Torres has not been  successful till date, but he also needs to get his act together, else this might be his last season. But, Cavani’s inclusion might help Fernando Torres too, if their partnership gets going in the EPL.
