Italy defeats Germany, meet Spain in Euro cup finals

June 29, 2012

Mario Balotelli 2 goals, Italy

It was a huge upset for one of the best teams of the tournament, Germany after they were shown the exit doors of the European Championship. They lost to Italy in the Semi-Finals of the competition, with the scoreline reading, 2-1. It was Mario Balotelli’s brace that helped the Italians book a berth for the finals of Euro 2012.

The Germans were unlucky as they could not find the back of the net more than once. It was a consolation goal that Germany scored via penalty kick during the injury time. In fact, it was the Italians who looked better out of the two teams. Germany could not show their class, which had made them the overall favouroites for the European title.

Balotelli had always been on the headlines for all the wrong reason, but his 2 goals against the mighty Germans have branded him as a hero once again, especially in Italy. His skills were never in doubt. This is the best way to silence his critics, who have been alleging him of his behaviour on and off the field.

The finals between Spain and Italy is going to be more of a technical game, where both the teams would come up with tactical moves to unsettle the other teams. Italy would not allow the Spaniards to play their free flowing style of football. They would be very tight on their marking. Spain may be the favourite but after Italy’s win against Germans, their confidence level must be sky high. With Balotelli in superb form, the Spanish team must be wary of the threat they possess. They had earlier met in the competition during the league stage, where the score line read, 1-1.
