Netherlands out of Euro 2012, Germany and Portugal qualify

June 18, 2012

Germany Football, Euro 2012

One of the most talked about teams before the competition, Netherlands,  has been ousted from Euro 2012. They lost their all important match against Portugal 2-1, when they needed to win Portugal by more than 2 goals to progress into the next round. It was C. Ronaldo’s brace that put Portugal into the quarter-finals of the competition.

One of the most surprising things about this Euro 2012 is the way Netherlands lost all their games, when they were considered to be one of the favourites. They had a good Euro qualifying, but they failed to carry that form to Poland and Ukraine. They had class players in their ranks, such as Robben, Sneijder, Van Persie, Affelay, etc but they failed as a unit. Hence, they have proved that the beautiful game is not about individual players but about the team playing as a strong unit.

Germany has been the sharpest of all teams in the competition with three victories in 3 matches. They did not play some of their best football against Denmark, but they won their match with the scoreline reading, 2-1. Hence, Denmark has also been ousted from the competition. But, Denmark put up a spirited performance against all the teams.

The Group stayed true to its ‘Group of Death’ tag, which was supposed to be anyone’s game. Indeed , it turned out to be the same. Netherlands were the most disappointing team out of the four nations, Denmark, Portugal and Denmark. Germany and Portugal would prove to be a strong contender for the remainder of the competition after turning triumphant from a difficult group.
