Netherlands practically out of Euro 2012 after their loss against Germany

June 13, 2012

Mario Gomez 2 goals

Netherlands lost their all important match against Germany to move closer to the exit doors, while Germany has moved closer to the quarterfinals of Euro 2012 championship. Things are looking great for the German football team. Two goals from Mario Gomez sealed the deal for the German team, who now stands at the top of the group, which was said to be the Group of death. Netherlands had to win their game against Germany to say alive in the competition.

Germany, with their emphatic display has stayed true to their tag of favorites for Euro 2012. They seem have the best players on the pitch who understand each other pretty well. They have a great sense of understanding on the pitch, which was evident from the game they played against the Dutch. But, on the contrary the Netherlands  team seem to be a disjointed group of players, where they more often looked as selfish Dutch players.

Netherlands may have a good share of possession on the pitch, but what it matters most is the score line. The 2-1 score line favouring Germany would drive the Germans to play an even better game, when they come up with better teams in future matches. Netherlands got many chances to score goals, but call it unlucky or bad finishing, they could not find the back of the net more than once. In their first match against Denmark too, they were not good in front of the goal. The same was witnessed against Germany too.

Dutch calculators would be out now to search for the only combination that would help the Dutch team go through. That is possible, but for this to happen, Netherlands must thrash Portugal with many goals as possible. At the same time, Germany must win their game against Denmark. So this is the only way Netherlands, Denmark and Portugal would have three points each. So the goal difference might come into consideration then. Looking at the Dutch game tonight, it would not be surprising if they are ousted from the competition without a point in their kitty.

The germans keep doing what they know best. Winning!

    • It is not Spain, the team to beat this Euro 2012, but Germany…

Agree. Spain is the most talented team. But I don’t think they can win 3 tournaments in a row. Been a great Euro so far, so can’t wait for the rest :).

  2. you never know with the European championship….Germany and Spain are still the favourites and Russia stands as the dark horse…..
