Netherlands, one of the favourites for Euro 2012 Championship

June 2, 2012

Netherlands has been tipped to be one of the favourites along with some other teams such as Germany, Spain, England etc to win the coveted Euro 2012 championship. Netherlands have been pitted in a tough group, which includes Germany, Denmark and Portugal. It is said to be a group of death, where only two teams would be progressing into the next round.

But, Netherlands aka Holland, has some of the best players of the world. Their depth in the squad makes them a strong contender. If football is about creativity, they have some of the best midfielders in the world. Players such as Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Ibrahim Afellay,Mark van Bommel, Nigel de Jong have it in them to take the Dutch team all the way into the finals of the competition. Sneijder and Van Der Vaart would be their most important players at the centre of the park making those threading passes to their strikers.

Their game in the opposition is what would bamboozle defenders, as they have strikers such as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Van Persie, Arjen Robben, Luuk de Jong etc, who can make defenders look stupid. They have proved themselves in international colours too. If Holland are to move ahead in the competition, their strikers have to perform their duty of scoring goals on a consistent basis. There is no reason, why these bunch of strikers can’t score goals. Van Persie and Arjen Robben would hold the key for Netherlands success.

If there is any weak link in their squad, it has to be their defenders, who are not well known players at the big stage. But still, players such as Khalid Boulahrouz, John Heitinga, Joris Mathijsen etc have the much needed experience to handle the responsibility and stop other strikers from scoring goals. But, there is no denying the fact, that the 3 goalkeepers that they have in their squad , Maarten Stekelenburg, Michel Vorm and Tim Krul have all impressed in their domestic competition and look in great shape.

Euro 2012 championship , which is scheduled to start next week shall see the best European football nations coming together and playing the beautiful game of football. Who among these top nations will be crowned champions? Will it be Netherlands?
