Henderson in England squad for injured Frank Lampard

May 31, 2012

Lampard, Henderson, Euro 2012

England suffered a major setback even before the Euro 2012 championship has started. Their star midfielder, Frank Lampard has been ruled out of the championship following a thigh injury. The Chelsea star is set to be replaced by a Liverpool player, Jordan Henderson. Though, it may not be a like to like replacement, but it is the teams decision to bring Henderson into the squad.

It was a very unfortunate injury, as it took place while the team was training in London. It must have been Lampard’s last chance to win a major silverware , while playing for the country. He must be utterly disappointed with this untimely injury. But, it seemed to have been lucky for Henderson, whose selection might not be liked by many English fans. Henderson has not been in the best of form for Liverpool, but still he got the nod ahead of other players, who were in better form than Henderson.

But, the former Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson would miss the creativity and the services of Frank Lampard, as he was considered to be a very important part of the England set up. They might have to change their plans.

But, the beautiful game is not only about a particular player, it is about the entire team, which has to play as a unit. England for many years have had some of the best individual players in the squad, yet they have not been able to win anything in their international colours. Will it be the same this year?
