Delhi Daredevils commits a sin in IPL by dropping Morne Morkel

Morne Morkel dropped

Delhi Daredevils had been one of the best teams for IPL season 5 during its group stages. Morne Morkel, the purple cap holder played an important role in bringing laurels to the franchise. But to everyone’s surprise, he was not included in the starting eleven for reasons of their own. Delhi Daredevils lost the game, as Chennai Super Kings hit the DD bowlers all around the park. Though, Sehwag claims that the players was injured, it is just a simple excuse.

Had it been for Morne Morkel presence in the game, the result could have been different. He had tormented batsmen in this edition of the IPl, as a result many batsmen were playing him cautiously but still, he turned out victorious. The bowler was very confident in his bowling, as witnessed in all his previous matches. Morne Morkel, for sure would not have allowed M. Vijay to play down the line as easily as he was doing to other bowlers. He would have bounced him out with his pace.

It is understood that the player had actually been dropped, to accommodate an all rounder, as Irfan Pathan had been injured in the previous match, so he could not play the game. So what do the DD do, they roped in Andre Russell and an unknown spinner to bring a balance upon the side. It would be interesting to know, as to how Morkel reacted to his replacement, as his exclusion is not justified, when the player is in such hot form.

The best thing that the DD think tank could have done was to drop Ross Taylor and play Morkel, as Taylor had not impressed in any of the previous matches. But, they went in for Taylor’s reputation and not form. But yet again, Ross Taylor failed to come up with a good innings during the game. With his exclusion, it looks certain that Sunil Naraine will snatch the purple cap away from Morkel. As of now, Morkel took 25 wickets and Naraine is just a wicket short of Morkel. Naraine, if we go by his previous record should take more than 2 wickets to snatch the purple cap from Morkel.

But, the fact remains, Delhi Daredevils lost the game due to Morkel’s exclusion. If Naraine wins the purple cap, it is for sure going to rub salt into Morkel’s wound and we know whom to blame for it.
