The defending champions for Euro 2012, Spain has received a huge setback with their prolific goal scorer, David Villa being ruled out of the prestigious championship. The Spanish football team think tank had to take this decision after he failed to prove his fitness to the national team’s manager, Del Bosque. He could not recover well enough from his fractured leg injury, which he suffered last December.

He is one of the top strikers of Europe, who torments defenders with his skills during the game. He has scored a total of 51 goals in 82 matches, making him Spain’s all time record goal scorer. Apart from this, he was one of the best players for Spain during the last Euro Campaign in 2008, where they turned victorious. He scored six goals during the tournament.

With Villa’s exclusion from the competition, it is time for other players to take his place in the starting eleven and prove their worth. The Spanish team do not have any dearth of strikers. Fernando Torres and Llorente could prove to be of equal worth, if not more. Both these lanky strikers have already achieved many accolades from experts for their performances. So, once again, they need to showcase their skills at Ukraine and Poland. Torres, who has not been in the best of form in recent times, could well get back into form with this tournament. On the contrary, Llorente has been doing pretty well of late too. It was Villa and Torres combination that played an important role in Spain turning out victorious in Euro 2008. Roberto Soldado is another another alternative that they have.

Irrespective of the player’s absence, Spain still look hot favourites, as they have some of the best players in the planet. Players such as Fabregas, Alonso, Xavi, Torres, Llorente, S. Ramos, Mata, led by Casillas have abundant quality in them to repeat their performance of 2008.

One of the best thing about these bunch of Spanish players is that most of them play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid, so there is a great understanding between these players, which reflects during the game. Spain is always known for their beautiful game and make no mistake about it, with or without David Villa, they are going to be the team to watch out for during the championships.
