Champions League finals: Bayern Munich Vs Chelsea

May 13, 2012

FC Bayern Munich and Chelsea FC are household clubs in Germany and England respectively. They have failed to win their domestic competition, Bundesliga and EPL. But, they have set their sights straight to the elite football club competition, Champions League to bring laurels to their club and fans. These two teams would play in the finals on 19th May 2012 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Chelsea Vs Bayern Munich, Champions League finals

Both teams have come up through an impressive semi-final clash, where Bayern Munich beat Real Madrid and Chelsea beat Barcelona. Not many expected these two teams to clash in the finals of the competition. Rather it was Real Madrid Vs Barcelona dream finals, which many experts had assumed before the semi-finals. One has to say, Chelsea and Bayern Munich deserved to play the finals.

Chelsea defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup finals recently. They showed during the game that they can up their game, when the need arises. The same would be expected from the blues during the finals. They have a great attacking line in the form of Fernando Torres, Drogba, Malouda, Lampard, Kalou. They might be playing with a lone striker up front. Didier Drogba with his current form could get a start ahead of Torres, who has looked good only in patches. Their defensive line may be questioned with David Luiz fitness still a concern for the Blues and Branislav Ivanovic not available for the match.

Lampard, Terry key Chelsea players

Bayern Munich offensive line is equally strong and in fact more creative than the blues. Mario Gomez, Franck Ribery, Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger will hold key for the German club. They would make life difficult for Chelsea defenders, if they get their act together, which the blues do not want. If they come up with a semi-finals repeat performance, it is assured that the trophy will not travel to England.

Both teams have class players, so it might be a little difficult to choose a favourite between the two. Some may put the German club as favourites, as they would play in their own country. They would be strongly supported. But, don’t undermine Chelsea supporters from around the world who would travel to support the blues. Hence, it going to be a humdinger of a match, where the team that plays well on the day would be crowned favourites.

Chelsea would be eager of the two clubs to win the trophy, for the blues would only qualify for Champions league next year, if they win the match. They have failed to seal a berth through the EPL route. This could in fact, act as a blessing in disguise for Chelsea.
