KKR Vs Pune Warriors: Will Kolkata support Sourav Ganguly?

May 4, 2012

Sourav Ganguly learnt the art of batting at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It was his home ground while he played for the Indian team and Kolkata Knight Riders too. The same cannot be said this time around, as he would be captaining Pune Warriors and his immediate opponents would be his former IPL team, KKR. They would battle it out at Eden Gardens for the all important match tomorrow on 5th May, 2012. People in Bengal have been a great supporter of Sourav. So, are they going to support KKR or Sourav? It is a million dollar question.

Sourav Ganguly

Ganguly, known as Prince of Kolkata or Dada, might not receive huge support from Bengalis in Kolkata. In the ongoing IPL, we have seen the KKR team being well supported at Eden Gardens. They are eager to see KKR do well, as they have not won any of the IPL editions so far. Will this season bring any glory? At this juncture, many ardent cricket fans would like to say, ‘a team is bigger than any individual’.

But, there are hardcore Sourav Ganguly  supporters in Kolkata, who may support Dada, irrespective of whichever team he represents’. For them, Sourav will always be their hero, for the things he has accomplished in the past. He has been Kolkata’s best player. He has given his fans enough reason to rejoice; hence they might not like to turn their back on Sourav.

On the other hand, there are bound to be a group of people in the crowd, who would want a KKR win, but Sourav Ganguly to perform. This could be the best result for supporters of KKR as well as Sourav.

Irrespective of whom the fans would support, Eden Gardens would welcome their son, Sourav Ganguly to his home ground, which he can call his own fortress, where he first picked up his willow. It is going to be an emotional night for Kolkata cricket fans and Sourav Ganguly.
