Noisy threat from Manchester City to Manchester United

April 23, 2012

EPL, a battle between two Manchester sides

Manchester United and Manchester City have both played 35 games apiece. Manchester City is trailing to Manchester United by just three points on the standings table. Now, City is not only the noisy neighbour, but also a noisy threat as far as the title race is concerned. The title race could not get any better than this, after Manchester United drew with Everton and City turned out victorious in their EPL fixture.

There are only 3 matches left to play for both the Manchester Clubs. Manchester United has to play Manchester City, Swansea and Sunderland in the final lap of the competition. Manchester City needs to play against United, Newcastle and QPR. The match which stands out, without a shadow of doubt has to be City vs united game, which could decide the title.  These two teams will give it their all, when they face off on 1st May, 2012. It’s probably going to be the match of the season.

But, the path may be easier for Manchester United till the finishing line, if they win their game against City. But, City’s victory might just spoil their chances. Manchester City cannot take it easy, even if they win against Manchester United, as Newcastle would be eager to defeat City, as Newcastle also have something to play for, Champions League Qualifying Spot. Hence, Manchester United seems to have a slight edge over the huge money spenders, Manchester City.

If Manchester City wins all their remaining fixtures, including their mega clash against their rivals on 1st May, City would be crowned as champions (better goal difference assumed). After which, even if Manchester United win both the matches, they will not be crowned as champions, as  Manchester City have a better goal difference, at present. If Manchester City will win all their games, they will reach up to a maximum of 89 points; United will also have the same number of points, if they lose against City. Here comes the goal difference, where City stands tall. How apt would it be when the title still remains undecided until the last day of the season, for this season has been full of surprises? Any new surprises in store?
