April 17, 2012

Football, the beautiful game is all about scoring goals and bringing laurels to their club and country. Hence, when the UEFA Champions League semi final is going to take place between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, both the teams would go in with the objective of winning the match. Hence, a match can only be won by scoring goals. Both the teams have good players up front. They have class written all over it.

Bayern Munich

Mario Gomez : The 6ft 2 inch striker can definitely pose a serious threat to Real Madrid defenders. He may be good in the air, but on ground too, he is equally a brilliant player. He has been one of the main strikers for Bayern Munich this season and would like to impress one and all in the all important clash against Real Madrid. He is the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 25 goals.

Frank Ribery : This French player has been on the radar for most of the top teams’ in the world, for his performances in Bayern Munich colours has been top class. He plays a very important role in the centre of the park for Munich and makes those great passes to players ahead of him, which leads to a goal. Apart from his assisting prowess, he has also the knack of scoring important goals for the club. He has scored 11 goals for Bayern Munich this season.

Arjen Robben : He could be the brains behind the game, as he has been a part of the Real Madrid team in the past and knows about their approach. Hence, he becomes a very important player. His skill with the ball is not unknown for many of us. His tricks can bamboozle many a defenders. He has one of the best left foot in the game hence Real Madrid will make sure that he does not get plenty of space in his left foot. His can also whip dangerous crosses from the flanks, which can be met precisely by lanky Gomez.

Real Madrid

C. Ronaldo : His name needs no introduction, for he is one of the best players in the world, if not the best. He has scored 41 goals (La Liga)during the season, jointly first with L. Messi in the La Liga’s top scoring sheet.  His trickery with the ball is parallel to none. He is dangerous with set pieces, which is normally a goal scoring opportunity for the player if it is within his shooting range. So committing fouls near the D box area could spell danger. On his day, he can tear a team apart individually, which Munich does not want to witness.

Gonzalo Higuain : He is not one of most talked about players in world football. But, still his goal scoring ability is what makes him a class act. He is one of those strikers who depend on other players to assist him. His one touch finishes is what makes him an out and out striker. He may not dribble the ball like many players, but when he gets the ball inside the box, he is best in the business of scoring goals.

Benzema : He is one of the most feared strikers in the world. To his credit he has scored 18 goals in the La Liga. He is a player with a ‘never give up’ attitude.  Though, his game may be a bit physical, but he plays an important role for Real Madrid. His burst of pace needs to be watched out by Bayern defenders, who may be caught wrong footed.

Apart from the players mentioned above there are other players in their respective teams, who may change the game on its head. The clash between these two sides is going to be an entertaining one, with the offensive players having an important role to play.
