Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers, ready for IPL 5

April 3, 2012

Two past winners of the IPL, Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Deccan Chargers (2010) need to improve upon their game from last year. Lots were expected from their fans after their IPL success. They cannot afford to let down their fans, any more this season.

Deccan Chargers, led by one of the finest wicket keeper batsmen of the current generation, Kumar Sangakkara has his hands full with the current crop of players he has got in his team. His team needs to lift up their game if they are to achieve any silverware this season.

IPL with their international stars and national players need to give it their all, if they are to earn a name for themselves in the tournament. Their foreign stars such as Sangakkara, C. White, Duminy,  have to stay long on the batting crease to put huge score on the board. Else, they might have to struggle in the tournament, as the shortest format of the game supports batsmen. The rest of the Indian players in their ranks, such as Gony, S. Dhawan needs to deliver the goods, along with their best bowler, Dale Steyn, who will also be under lots of pressure. On paper, they have the weakest team in the IPL. Sanagakarra might be the difference between victory and defeat for Deccan Chargers.

Irrespective of their squad, they need to play as a team, which is a very important ingredient in any competition. The Deccan think tank needs to work towards it, as it might help them in bringing favourable results for the team.

Rajasthan Royals, who was dependent on Y. Pathan for the first three editions of the IPL was bought by KKR during last year auctions, which was a great loss to RR. Hence, they were not at their best last season. But, things have to move on and they seem to be ready for the season ahead.

Their squad seems to have a good balance between the international and national players, which could take them all the way this season. Indian players such as Rahul Dravid (captain), A. Rahane, Pankaj Singh, S. Binny, S. Trivedi are not unknown quantity to Indian fans. It has been noticed that team, which has good national players find success in the IPL. They have an impressive line up of international stars with Shane Watson, S Tait, J. Botha, B. Hodge, P.Collingwood, who have all tasted international success. Hence it would be fair to say that RR is the dark horse for the tournament. Rajasthan Royals success would be highly dependent on Shane Watson’s all round performance.

RR, with this group of players will not be taken lightly. Will this team bring glory to the RR owners once again by lifting the IPL trophy?
